Cheap, But Great Skincare

Winter is now upon us. ‘Tis the season for dry cracked lips and stinging skin! But don’t fret. VIM has tested some great new products that don’t only boost your complexion and keep your skin hydrated, but are super affordable for college women and men on a budget! Here are some of our recommendations and favorites for this upcoming winter season.

Vaseline – Rosy Lips Lip Therapy $3.99

How could we not start out this list with a lip balm? This is an essential year-round, especially in the chilly winter months. Smack this all over your lips and you’ll be left with a beautiful and subtle rosy tint that lasts for hours. This product leaves your lips super moisturized and acts like a shield against the harsh outdoor conditions. The best part? It’s only $3.99 at the local CVS off Grand River!

Burt’s Bees – Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream $8.69

This moisturizer is great for all skin types: oily to dry and sensitive to normal. Smooth this over your face and neck during morning and night. It has a light almost airy texture that absorbs quickly leaving your face with soft and hydrated skin. Don’t let its texture fool you, this product is super moisturizing and will work for any skin type without causing irritation. And at only $8.69 at Target, this is one we couldn’t say no to!

The Ordinary – Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution $8.70

We have to admit that we’re low key (high key) obsessed with The Ordinary. They have great products for super low prices and don’t test on animals (*swoon*). This toner is an excellent addition to add into any skin routine. The glycolic acid is an AHA exfoliant which helps to improve the texture and clarity of the skin. Expect more radiant, smooth and glowing skin with continued use of this product. The best part? You get eight fluid ounces for only $8.70! Grab this one while it’s hot!

The Ordinary – “Buffet” $14.80

While most VIMmers and students alike are still in our teens and twenties, it is never too early to start adding an anti-aging product into your routine. “Buffet” is perfect for those of us who don’t want to use a million skincare products day and night. This is a “one and done” product. Apply this serum day and night, and let Buffet work its magic. In a few weeks’ time, expect to see firmer plumper skin and a reduction in your fine lines! We seriously love this one and highly recommend you give it a try!

The Ordinary – 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil $9.90

If we have pick a favorite skin care product from this list, then this is it. Cold-pressed oils are high in nutrients and antioxidants. This is the “only cold-pressed virgin African Marula oil that is 100% unrefined.” Marula oil absorbs very quickly into your skin compared to other facial oils, like argan and rosehip oil. This is such a versatile product, it can be used on the face, body and hair. Mix it with your favorite skin care products (we recommend “Buffet” and a daily moisturizer) to help them absorb faster and deeper into the skin. Adding a drop to foundation will give you a luminous complexion. Massage into the eye sockets and lashes in place of eye cream. Add into the hair after a shower for some intense shine. Or, massage your cuticles to keep them healthy and moisturized. This is an amazing all-around product, and for just $9.90, it is definitely worth the buy!

So, these are some of our favorite affordable skin care products to use in the winter. Be sure to try them out for yourself this season.
